Refresher Course on "Process Intensification"

INTRODUCTION

The need of the hour is that we must intensify our profits through Process Intensification.

We are happy to inform you that under the auspices of the Technology & Energy Expert Committee of ICC, we have organized One-day Refresher Course on "Process Intensification" on Friday, 26 June 2009. The venue of the Refresher Course is Marigold, Hotel Gateway - Vadodara, Akota Gardens, Vadodara - 390 020.

In the words of Mr. Ramshaw who is one of the pioneers in the field, Process Intensification means: a strategy for making dramatic reductions in the size of a chemical plant so as to reach given production objective. The Process Intensification has been also defined as "any chemical engineering development that leads to substantial smaller, cleaner and more energy efficient technology".

The concept of Process Intensification is very much relevant in the current crisis situation faced by the Indian chemical industry. Members are aware that industry is experiencing surge in the imports of chemicals in the country and is also finding it difficult to export its products in international market at competitive rates. The domestic industry is already suffering from high cost of inputs such as cost of feedstock, cost of finance, cost of power, infrastructure bottlenecks, absence of adequate export incentives etc. and only way to be competitive is to look inwards and find out ways and means of reducing costs of production, carrying out extensive R&D, modifying processes which will give more yields at a reasonable capital expenditure thereby increasing return on investments etc.

COURSE CO-ORDINATOR :
Prof. V. V. Mahajani, Professor of Chemical Engineering, Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) is the Co-ordinator for this course.

FACULTY :
We are pleased to inform you that the experts from the industry and National Chemical Laboratory will participate and make presentations on different subjects in different areas. The Case Studies on Process Intensification will be presented for the benefit of the delegates.
