Virtual Session on “Safety in Indian Chemical and Petrochemical Industry being organized by Indian Chemical Council (ICC) with support of Antwerp Port Authority, Belgium on 28th September 2020 from 1430 to 1600 hrs (IST) - INVITATION TO TAKE PART

Dear All,

Greetings from Indian Chemical Council (ICC) to you!

The Chemical and petrochemical sector plays a vital role in the economic development of any country. Its healthy growth is important. Behind the scenes, chemical plants are busy converting raw and base chemicals into products different industries can use. In fact, about 80% of the outputs of the chemical industry are inputs to other sectors. Any disruption to chemical plants can result in a serious disruption to the industries downstream.

Importance of safety for sustainable growth of the Chemical/Petrochemical industry is a factor needing special focus. The spate of accidents in the sector as reported by the media in recent times point to the same and are a matter of serious concern.

Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan (or self-reliant India) is the vision of the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi of making India a self-reliant nation. The aim includes to boost domestic production of chemicals and petrochemicals to cut down imports and make India a manufacturing hub for the sector. It is important the same happens in a safe and sustainable manner.

Indian Chemical Council (ICC), which is the principal industry association in the sector, is addressing this issue of safety in the chemical industry by organizing a series of webinars. Aim is to bring to the table the best global practices as also developments in the field of chemical safety for Indian industry. The first such program in the series is being organized on 28th September 2020 in association with the Antwerp Port Authority, Belgium.
